OK looks like we are back to square one.

Responce from Specialty tools:

No sorry I measured this box 5 times and we because of the design
we couldn't possibly make it any smaller. Maybe you can try another form
of shipping. The size is 38" x 20 x 20 x 20 x 20 you add them together
you get 118 you 2' of each side I don't know how to make it smaller.

This is how USPS calculate max box size:

Open to any suggestions of alternate carriers...

No grasping at straws:

...thanks for coming back to me. Sorry to be a pain but I just had an idea. I went to the USPS site to see how they calculate the max box size. Here is their page:

Now you are quite correct for a rectangular box. However it says for a cylinder they calculate it slightly different (circumference plus length). If there is any chance of you wrapping some bubble wrap and cardboard around it and making it a cylindrical package then we might juts sneak in under their limit.

Assuming diameter of 18" as per your website and allowing 1" all round for packing would give us a circumference of ( 2x ? x R = 2 x 3.14158 x 10" = 62.8") plus the length of 38" makes a total of 100.8" well under their 108" limit.

Now I appreciate its a lot more work for you but I think their may be 3 or 4 guys interested in one of these so it might be worthwhile.

Let me know whether this might work for you.

Cheers

Lets see how we go. Who wants one if he'll do it?

Ok I just spoke to Joe at Specialty tools and get the sense that he may help us out and rebox these things to enable us to post them for a reasonable price.

This is the link to the product in question:

If anyone is interested in getting one the chap to speak to there is Joe Gizzy and his telephone number is (888)61-TOOLS or (585)594-1110
in the States.

OK Guys it looks like we aree a go. Here is the latest email from them:

Hello, my name is David and I have been working with Joe on ways to ship
this product to you, I spoke with the US post office today and your idea
about wrapping the cyclone will work out for us. We will sell this product
through our web store to you, I found some info on how much it will cost to
ship and it will be aprox.$100 for global express service 6-10 day with USPS
as well as a $30 dollar handling charge. This is the best we can do for you.
If you want the product please purchase it through our web store.

That will bring the entire cost (ex tax) to 289 usd or just under 150 pounds.

I personally will be ordering one now. If you decide to get one make sure you specify whether you want the 6" or 4" port.

Andy did you get a response from Axminster on the cost of the motor/fan etc?

Good luck

Just ordered one. At the moment their website is giving incorrect postage information so best to Call Dave Verdi on the number posted above and order over the phone.

Failed again yesterday to get through.
Will definitely be ordering on Monday now.

Did you ask what they were going to pack this in? I mean in a box there is a bit more protection from mis-handling than if they just wrap Brown paper around the tube
Mike

Hi Mike,
Yes I did. Basically it will be wrapped in plastic, then bubble wrap then plastic again. They spoke with their USPS agent about the best way to wrap and send it. Supposedly most of what is posted in this method is small letters/packets and there should be very little bumping and banging.
Is you're slightly concerned feel free to wait for mine to arrive and I can post photos of the condition it arrives etc. It should be with me within 10 days fo ordering (we'll see) so shouldn't be too long.

Andy did yoou ever get an answer from Axminster?

Noddeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

come back all is forgiven lol

i'm desperate to know how you got on!!

Just heard back from Axminster and Charnwood - the price of just the motor and impeller sections from their 4000 m3/h dust extractors is nearly the same as the full extrator and no warranty.

So maybe better to buy the Axminster one (ADE 4000) at 345 UKP and then just pull it to bits.

One other thought crossed my mind this morning - I have 2 of the cheapo Perform Bag Dust extractors the
http://www.axminster.co.uk/product-Perform-CCDE5002-Extractor.-384393.htm
i got these for free (very long story)

Now how about I parallel them up and maybe buy another 2 so all four working together? That will be cheap enough and i can build a switching unit to connect them all together??

Any thoughts anyone?

Mind you buy the time I build the 4:1 manifold and the common switching unit and another 2 it would cost 345 quid I'm sure

Mikepooley, sorry I've taken so long to post, but the plan for Bill Pentz's mini-cyclone, which is the same as the Clearvue mini, is on his website and is a spreadsheet plan, so you can vary the sizes, and it will calculate the necessary other dimensions.

The one thing I have trouble with is plaster dust. Does anyone know what size particle plaster dust has? It traps quite a lot, but a noticeable amount gets through.

Hi Guys,
Apologies I have been away for a couple of weeks. Just got back to find a large parcel waiting. Bottom line is I am now the proud owner of one cyclone. There was a small dent (can be seen in the pics below) from its trip from the States but will knock that out without too much trouble.
The other good news is that it made it trough without any import duty/VAT so pretty happy on that front. Now if only someone would be kind enough to suggest a suitable extraction unit with a 6 inch input that wont break the bank.....
