I have sent them an email asking if they will ship to the UK - not had a reply yet. But maybe if we had several orders they would didscount the shipping costs at least.?
:)

Well I'm keen, especially if they can supply the impeller too. From what I understand not much point in buying a motor from the States. Anyone found a 3hp/5hp motor in the UK thats not too expensive?

I had a look at the auction and they don't metion anything about international shipping .......... so I guess it'll be interesting to see what reply you get about shipping

Ian

I just got this reply

If you want to pay for the shipping, I'm not sure what the cost would be you can get a quote. The box is 24" x 24" x 48" approx 40lbs.

Thanks

Hi Mike,
I just spoke to Joe at Specialty Tools who are one of the guys selling the Cyclone. It looks like using USPS we may be able to ship it over for about 130 dollars. He is checking that the total size of the package doesn't exceed their weight restrictions and is emailing me back. That would bring the whole thing in for about 300 dollars ( 150 pounds) plus import tax. That seems pretty reasonable to me.

Then next question is do we just attach a regular dust extractor to this or look to attach an impellor/motor system.

Looking for ideas on that one.

Let me know what you think.

Cheers

Well that sounds like very good value to me :)

as for getting an impellor and motor - well yes for one thing it would probably be smaller and cheaper. Plus we would have more control over the design (allthough i really honestly havnt got a clue as yet)
we'd still need a filter too! but all in all that is the way i'd like to go i think.
I want a quiet (if possible) induction motor as well !

I have a mate who runs his own motor rewind shop so even if i cant nab a bargain I think his advice would be very helpful :D

Mike

It Dutch - where this Welshman lives - ebay thinks I'm a Dutchman!

Sounds good guys I've not heard back yet but 150 quid seems very good to me. That was the guys I was emailing with too.

I have asked Axminster if they will sell me the fan and motor only for the ADE 4000
http://www.axminster.co.uk/product-Axmi ... -23251.htm

they have agreed and are pricing it up as spare parts for me. That will move air at 4000 m3 per hour. I'll keep you all posted

I will fit the cyclone and the fan on the outside of my workshop (in a small sound proofed house) with a filter on the inside of the workshop (to retain heat in the winter
I will go for filters like this from ebay link

as mentioned previously in this thread.

I'm thinking of a six inch one with a 6 inch main ducting taking it down to 4 inches for each machine, and finally as I'm saving all this money I may splash out on an http://www.ecogate.com system !

Andy,
Very interesting, particularly the Axminster spare parts part.
Please let me know what they'll sell the motor/fan for as that may well be the way to go. I agree on the filter from ebay but the electronic gates might be a little out of my league.
I was thinking of a small remote control on the motor''s power supply and just keeping the remote in my pocket to turn on the extraction when needed. It would still necessitate manual gates though...

I know the ecogate is gilding the lily, but I started my career off as a automation engineer, so I cannot resist a chance to go back to the old days

I'll keep you posted here to the price from Axminster

I wonder could you have the filter and cyclone in the workshop and only the fan and motor outside? that would be easier for me at least- means i could empty the bin without going outside

you say you are going to use 6inch pipe reducing to 4inch. I have been thinking about this a lot as most machines only have a 4inch outlet but as i (vaguely) understand it Bill Pentz says we should be upgrading our machine dust ports?
I must admit when i think about going to all this bother with cyclones etc .
with the very poor collection on my machines i really find it difficult to believe that my shop will be dust free even with the cyclone :(
its a matter of experimentaion i suppose!
I know when i tried to make improved dust collection for my RAS before it failed miserably but it maybe was that i just didnt have enough ooomph in the exractor?

I would love to hear how you get on but as i'm just getting the roof of my new workshop on now i want to fit it out now!!
Keep us posted

Mike

If you guys are going to get together a bulk order/combined shipping for 6" cyclones, please let me know, I'd probably take part.

Since you are spending all this money don't waste it by reducing down to 4" - just modify the ports on your machines to accept 6" pipe, you won't regret it.
Davy

Hmm good point Davy - more to think about

Mike

That website from Bill Penz also has a natty level detection device for the waste bin below a cyclone, basically a cheap motor with a tiny fan, when the fan is stopped by the shavings it stops, the current rises an an alarm goes off.

I'll go that route.

I want to save space in my workshop and reduce noise - I have the room outside to expand a little

Looking like we may have a problem with them shipping it to the UK. Hearing that the total box dimensions are bigger than the 108 inchs that USPS state as max box size. Still looking into it and will post when I hear more
