And it drives me nuts when I hear offen the 'bus. ; I also dislike the missing apostrophe, from 'bus; as short for omnibus! burrit ain't the end of t'world! (hammer)

I still like to use 'phone with the apostrophe, hate the oozing import 'gotten'.

Thinking about Usage and Abusage; I recall trying to explain the whys and wherefores of 'Cockney-slang' to an American... Oh boy!

Being a generman of some years, I always thort it was "of" i.e. I want two or 3 of them thingamabobs over by there or should that be down by yer.

Not an import but originally middle English that fell out of use here but was kept going in the former colonies.

I see "off" as "off the press", "off the machine" etc i.e. number of items to be copied/reproduced i.e. not just a number of items - so 10 doors to be made would be "10 off" but 20 doorknobs to buy would be 20 in number or "20no".
Important when there are other numbers involved e.g. 20 screws; No 10 x 3" x 20no.
