Lady knocker from a utility came knocking at my door, so we chatted for a few minutes and she seemed very nice (around 35 years of age and blonde) So I invited her in, and as she stepped over the threshold I said "you are in luck, the wife is out", she replied "thats alright" but as we entered our living room I said this is my wife, who was sitting in her chair.

We had a good laugh.

John, did you have a good laugh by the way of a threesome or was it a big relief that your wife was there or was it just embarrassment :?

Such sarcasm! I suspect this is one of those things where you had to be there to fully appreciate it.

However, and I don't mean to pick out the OP here, this sort of thing is indicative to my mind of one of the major problems with the 'off-topic' section.
Some people feel the urge to post about everything that happens to them during the day, such as (and I use these as hopefully purely random, fictitious examples) 'I had a puncture today' or 'I'm taking my First Aid exam later' followed by 'I passed my First Aid exam' and other equally mundane matters.

I'm sorry, but who cares? I really don't think anyone is that interested in me as a person to worry about what I'm up to or what I'm thinking and I don't feel the need to share such matters.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting closing this section, it has helped me a lot in the past with advice and suggestions, but perhaps posters should try to show a little self-discipline and think twice before posting.
It has been said that the forum is like having a chat down the pub; perhaps, but these 'topics' above would only warrant twenty seconds of conversation which is less time than it takes to type them.
We'll be discussing the merits of different brands of washing powder next!

you obvioulsy missed my comments on using comfort as a wood conditioner ;)

Terry, can you let me know when you're going to the toilet next? I'm interested.

No, I agree with you to some extent. It's hard to define the line tho.

Terry , would it not be fair to state, that those members who only wish to discuss woodwork matters and articles participate in those sections so dedicated and others who want a General chat section as well still have the opportunity if they so wish.

My item was prompted by an earlier thread re telephone callers and replies made by members here.
This instance was how I spoke to a doorstep caller.

No, not really...

As I've said, I like the Off Topic section and wouldn't want to see it disappear.

Some restraint from posters would be useful but then, and it's a hobbyhorse of mine, so would some consideration about misleading or totally irrelevant titles. The mind boggles as to how many interpretations there are to the title of this post, and who can forget such gems as 'Sold by a man?' or 'Today's Link' or 'All Clear?' etc. What on earth are they about? Only way to find out is to look at them and hey presto, another 20 seconds of my life I can't get back.
(My apologies to the posters of these titles, again it was relatively random).
Truth is, I don't read most of them nowadays unless the title tells me what it's going to be about and as a result I'm sure I miss some interesting topics.

I just can't help feeling that some people strive for quantity and forget about the quality of their posts.

Wizer, no I won't tell you and no-one cares!

Terry, I don't want to talk about you and your views, lets just talk about oil and wax.

Chill out and get out the right side of the bed tomorrow :D

Oh, and don't reply to this else we will no that you are reading a load of rubbish that don't want to read

This thread is working and active so General chat is obviously used by some.

To control its contents apart from S,R. & P is all that is needed.

Okay, I know when I'm beaten, there's just no answer to logic like that.

Well, now that you've brought the subject up, what are your views re the pros and cons of liquitabs over powder and, is own brand just as good?

I'm thinking of setting up a rival networking site called Twatter, you can have a good evenings Twatting with your fellow Twats.

Though this highly intellectual post could be rendered even more pointless if the censor objects to me twatting. Let's see...

Maybe I was trying to be too clever for my own good, but I read DW's OP as loaded with irony & thought it was quite amusing.

Bit along the lines of the fast show bloke (what was he called?) saying this week I'm mainly eating.......

Terry hope you are feeling a bit less grumpy today
