Well guys my ROS finally gave up today, halfway through a job as you can guess. Hasn't done bad as it was a cheapo from Lidl about two years ago. What is the best buy for the money (cheap/good) It must have a 6 dia pad and Velcro fastening although I think all of them are now, Velcro that is.? :(

Mailee, not sure if its in your budget or not, but last year I purchased a Metabo ROS and although not cheap is bloody brilliant and I think is excellent value for money as the finish and performance of the tool is superb.

I'm with Byron, SXE450 for me too. Takes 6 hole 150mm discs, just watch out if you have a pile of 8 hole ones

Mailee

I use the PP one from B&Q plus it did get a good veiw in one of the mags.
I have been happy with it, but the one small thing is getting discs from B&Q with the right holes is not going to happen

So you have to the 150mm discs and put your own holes in it  .

For the price it is still good :)

I also have the Metabo SXE450 Duo and have been very happy with it. I use it with a vacuum attached all the time and it works great

Had it about 5 years but recently the mechanism that changes the action from small orbit to large orbit packed up (on large orbit)

Has anybody else had this prob? Is it easily fixed?

John

Well thanks guys. It looks unanimous that the Metabo SXE 450 is pretty popular and worth the money so I had to go for it. Looks like I got a good deal with Anglia tools for the full kit including case and disks for £145. It says next day free delivery too which is good so I can carry on with the gate I am building. (What not another gate again!) Couldn't have done it without you guys thanks again.

Well guys the Metabo 450 arrived today and has been tested! I never thought I could get so worked up over a sander but this one is the business for sure. It takes wood off extremely quickly and with the extractor fitted there is hardly any or no dust at all! It is so smooth in it's orbits too, in fact it is a better piece of kit than the ones we have at work in our body shop! Got to admit i do like the Festool type box it came in although it won't fit with all the other boxes I have but it is a sturdy carrying case for it. Thanks for the recommendations guys it was worth every penny. :D
