Cutting HSS

I purchased some of the following HSS square stock and need to cut it down.

I tried with my angle grinder and a metal cutting disc, but after a few minutes, had barely cut 1mm in. I assume I need a specific type of disc? I thought I would stop and ask for advice as I always have a huge fear of the disc blowing up when used in the wrong situation.

a few postings down is one entitled "how to cut hss bits"

basically as said, in a vice, rag over and smack it with something heavy. Have the jaws about where you want it to break

I commented the same in the other post. If you do cut it you want the thinnest slitting disc you can get. Better to break it though, if you need to be somewhat accurate then use the angle grinder to score it where you want it to break.

use a wafer blade which is 1 mm thick
