Something odd has happened on my PC - whenever I open a directory in Windows explorer or try to open a file through a program eg Word, the directory has defaulted to showing the file list starting with Z instead of A. I don't see a way of returning this to its original default - clearly I can do it manually but I don't know how this has suddenly changed and its rather annoying.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Tim

Tim, try this. Open the My Documents folder. Immediately above the file names, click on "Name". This should resort the files be name alphabetically. Next, Click on Tools>Folder Options and then the View tab. Click the button that says, "Apply to All Folders." That is supposed to do what you want. It is Windows you're dealing with so it's anyone's guess if it'll work.

You can click on any of the column headings and it will sort the folder view by that column. clicking it again sorts it in reverse order as you found out Tim.

Useful for finding a file by date for instance. If you remember the approximate date, sort by date to find the file.

Then just put it back how you like it when you've finished searching.

regards

Brian
