You can also follow this WIP on my website http://www.simonswoodwork.tk
I have entered the INTERMEDIATE category, and as required in the competition I had to provide a short Design Brief. So here it is:
"I am going to make a desk-top piece. I am currently deciding on final details. I want to make a desk-top cabinet that will have a couple of draws in for A4 paper and other things you find on a desk. That is the main design, but I'm also considering a bigger piece where there would be a place for a flat screen monitor, some shelving/ display shelves and possibly storage for CDs. The main construction will be of solid wood." - Posted on: Thu Apr 23, 2009 7:44 pm.
So now baring the design brief in mind, I had to make a decision on how small or big this was going to be. Considering a few things, such as moving house soon and also the credit crunch!!!! I decided to go with the smaller reserved version. So I am going to make a desktop cabinet with an A4 paper draw and and sectioned stationary draw. This piece will be small enough to bring with me on the move (maybe even having to re-locate the workshop during this project) and it will also be fairly cheap to make.
Now, here's my design drawing that I have done by hand, this was sketched out a few days ago now.
And after liking this drawing, I did the technical one with all the sizes on.
And here's the close-up detail that I have worked-out so far.
And finally after being able to put the plans together, I've worked out my cutting list too:
This is as far as I have got at this moment in time, and will now source the light & dark hardwods I require. Also picking up the plywood.
I'll report back here when I have more to update on my progress so far. Thanks for looking, Simon. As usual any comments so far, please feel free to in this thread.
