Compass plane question

Quick question about my Record compass plane. Currently when you show it a bit of remotely tough wood it chatters like a hairdresser and shavings manage to find their way between blade and cap iron. I think part of the problem is the cap iron screw, the final thread is knacked and limits the travel, this can be solved with the grinder.

However, a closer look at the cap iron shows that the quality control was not what it should have been. I could spend a long time fettling it with no guarantee it will sort it, so the question is....

Will an aftermarket cap iron fit it and if so which one?

I don't know, but i recently bought a Kunz (German) compass plane from Dieter Schmid Fine Tools http://www.fine-tools.com/G301619.htm and if you want some measurements i'd be happy to oblige...
