I am fitting a kitchen (not what I normally do). The electric range cooker instructions say to give it 10mm clearence on each side. The range is 900mm wide, the kitchen designer has only allowed a total of 900mm for the range. The extra 20mm will throw everything out. Is this normal?

I allow 5mm each side, then at least the worktop overhangs the edges a bit. Have you not got corner infills you can take a bit off?

I allow 5mm each side as well for a range cooker and 10mm each side for a heat storage cooker such as an AGA.

Then put a overhang on the top to close the the gap up between the cooker and tops.

The kitchen designer needs to told he's an idiot. How can a 900 mm wide object fit into a 900 mm wide gap? what size hammer does he use?

if its all electric, theres not much problem. If the top burners are gas, then its VERY important to have the flames above the side worktop levels.

Thanks guys.

I can loose it on the infills at the end it's just how much it messes up the units/extractor above but I will make it work, will probably go with a 5mm gap.

Only said I would do it to help customer out, wish I hadn't bothered as walls miles out of square/plumb, sockets in wrong place etc. It's a barn conversion that they are trying to project manage themselves but not making a very good job of.

Is the range actually 900mm? Might be a stupid question, but I have put in a "900mm" fridge freezer which was actually 895mm.

My 900 cooker is actually 898 which amounts to the same thing (1mm each side isn't enough to swing a cat). Left a 10mm gap each side which I intend to close with a little shaped hardwood insert so that debris doesn't fall down the gap. I'll get around to it one day.

Yes the range is full 900mm, when I saw the plan I presumed it would be slightly under size to fit a 900mm opening but no it is 900mm.
