Chinese Ply

Been ringing round getting some prices on ply today, most people could only offer F Eastern in 18mm, in the normal 'reddish hues'.

I need something lighter in colour.....Holdex Plywood in Blackburn have Chinese Ply in 18mm with a softwood outer - 2 good faces @ £15.50 +vat - very good price.

Has anyone used this Chinese stuff? Is it worth having?

Hi Chris

Be very careful of the Chinese stuff - the quality is very variable and some has a tendency to warp as the cutting stresses are released. For a more trade-oriented supplier try Peter Benson in Darwen (they stock birch, etc), or drop me a PM if you'd like some more ideas

And that was my 2,500th post - so I'm only 1/4 of the way to Alf's target :shock: :wink:

I was offered a some Chinese ply last year when I couldn't get any birch ply and it was rubbish. As Scrit says it was warping on the pallet. Full of woodworm too :roll:
