Cat shelves 🥴🥴🥴

So I've posted a couple of WIP pics on the thing you made thread but I'm a little uncertain about how to mount the bridge on the wall at the minute, it's a bit heavier than I thought it would be and worry about the bridge itself pulling on the shelves at each end, would love some suggestions for mounting them here's a pic of the bridge and the bits of wood I have

Looks grand but I’m struggling to visualise it in its final position- it’s prob just me and the loss of £700 to replace my clutch . Is it going between 2 fixed walls ? or have I missed something

Something like this (the top one) but one end will be lower than the other

Ahh I see now - I can understand your concern as you don’t have a lot of surface contact to utilise. So maybe some sort of back panel built into design so you could simply fix it to the wall using plugs and screws etc - my only other thought would be a floating shelf type bracket that could be fixed to the wall and the bridge ends simply slide onto the rails ( if you follow)

That's my initial thought, I'm just not sure on best fixings, I think a red rawl plug might be too small for the amount of pulling force over time combined with the added pressures from the cat using it. I have brown plugs but sure they are enough either.

I scoffed at the price of Fischer duo plugs but they are far superior to the brown / red plugs respectively. 6mm for smaller jobs 8 mm for heavier duty and 10 mm for even stronger . As usual as long as the wall in question is sound and I assume ( solid ) then the 8 mm should be adequate but 10mm if you prefer bullet proof . Cavity walls are never going to be easy unless you find the studs and work to those .. edit I find it best to sink the plug into the brick rather than leaving it flush with the plaster

It's for one of the families that SWMBO does P.A work for, the daughter (high level autistic) won't leave the cat alone so I was "volunteererd" to make somewhere out of reach for the cat to escape to, I reluctantly agreed and as usual went over the top and this is what I've got so far, only plan to do 1 more shelf and a rope bound post. The bed, shelf and post will be easy as the wheight is pretty much all vertical but with the bridge it's vertical with a horizontal pull from the bridge slats if that makes sense


@SammyQ I'm told solid, I've not been there myself yet but I'm aware it makes a huge difference

Unless they've got something like a Maine Coon most adult cats are around 5-5.5kg, so it's not a huge load. If I was doing that I'd use something like this, 2 per side but flipped so the fixings are less obvious

It's tempting to say use floating shelf brackets, but if the daughter pulls on the shelf trying to get to the cat...
