Couple of woodcarving gouges for sale as a pair, both in very good and sharp condition, but see note below.

The Ashley Isles is a number 7 sweep and approximately 17mm wide. The brass ferrule is partially split, as they are prone to do and as shown in the pictures, but makes no difference in use.

The Henry Taylor Acorn is a very shallow sweep as seen in the pictures and is approximately 17mm wide again.

A useful pair for spoon carving, kuksas or general carving.

£40 for both please, plus postage at cost, or collection from Basingstoke, Hampshire.

And ... what did you use to sharpen them? They've got a lovely finish that I think I'd struggle to maintain with my current stones.

Just a leather strop on a board Rob, with some blue or gold compound, and a wooden dowel rubbed with the compound to very lightly take off any burr on the inside edge afterwards. If I thought they needed more of a refresh then I'd use fine wet and dry paper on a board and give them a few strokes with that and then finish with the strop.

Mine are flat tbh, I just work them round the gouge curve, saves having to have different strops for different gouges, and I might be a bit lazy !

I've bought a job lot of leather pieces so can't help myself.
