Titan Gecko , one of only 3 in the countrty when he bought it, and worth significantly more than my van ;)

thats his fair weather bike - he also has a fatboy for when he wants to go out in the rain

I guess it's in the eye of the beholder. To me, that's just another big Harley-a-like. I presume enthusiasts revel in the detail changes.

Here is a 1960 Ford Consul that the family used to have. As you can see it has extraordinary beauty, style and elegance based on the 1950's American cars. Most modern cars in comparison are fairly bland, functional and uniform in design although they are much more reliable, economical and safer. The Consult had 3 speed column gears, big bench style seats, lots of chrome, nice curves etc and is probably the best looking car that Ford made in Britain.

My first car was a 1958 Consul :D

It was fantastic, not very fast, but huge inside with a reclining front bench seat...........nudge, nudge, wink, wink!!

I've always liked Jags but never owned one (apart from a re-badged Mondeo I had on loan that is).

I test drove an XF last month and was very impressed but they offered me a silly price for my car in exch. Clearly didn't need a sale :? got me out of a possible agro situation with the wife though :-$

Had the VW for a couple of days test drive Bob but eventually went for the Merc Vito. Great little van 6 speed and drives like a car.

I'm not a huge fan of all Jags, some of the older ones are dreadful, but I do like the XJS, and the new models are gorgeous!

It seems that Jag are enjoying something of a resurgence at the moment, which is probably why they offered a silly price for yours. There's probably a waiting list for XFs.

Unfortunately, just when I need a 4x4, the Hilux is off the road. Failed the MOT and needs some welding on the cab. It seems that Hilux is Japanese for Rust!!

Thing is Alan that the Renault is like that. (mine is a 2004 model) 2.5tb LWB
Got all the toys, pretty quick and drives like a car..........but...... the Renault electrics are rubbish and I've heard recently the gearboxes are suspect too.

Van cost me £2k repairs in a 12 month period so I'm not impressed.

I get my vans secondhand from a mate with a distribution company. Driven by one driver who looks after them like a baby and although high mileage, I do so little that it doesn't matter.
price is always good as well (last one cost me very little cash plus some labour to build a stone wall :lol: ) I love the old barter system :wink:

His current van is a high specced VW due for change soon and with my name against it. :D

It was pretty much the base model I drove and was about the same list as my BM once a couple of additions included.
Very spacious but handled very well though I doubt it could be chucked around like mine.

Offered £12600 px on my 2 year old £31k high specced motor with 13k on the clock and not a blemish anywhere. - My reply wasn't polite - should have seen his face when I told him where to put his "generous" valuation :lol:

It was.

You may have noticed that the Top Gear vehicle had been lightened to improve its performance by the well known ferrous oxide process.

Unfortunately, on mine, this process has started within 12 inches of the seat belt anchorages which, as we all know, is an MOT failure. It's also a PITA to get at to repair!!
 
Sounds like the Datsun pickup my dad bought new in 77.
In less than three years it was the most expensive ton of scrap he had ever bought :evil: (he was a scrap metal dealer)
 
My father-in-law used to have the big Fords - Consuls and then a Zephyr 6.
Very comfy cars in their day?
My first car was an A35 Van, then a notched back Anglia. Upgraded to a Rover 2000 which I kept far too long as I loved it!
It was the first car (I think) that was built with an inner safety cage and bolt on body panels?
The boot and bonnet lids were Aluminium but the body panels had no protection on the inside and rusted through!
But most cars at that time had rust problems and garages and DIY Stores did big business on rust protection sprays/paints.
Those were the days?

Todays cars are much, much better - safer, more comfortable and reliable. Who drives around with a kit of spare parts anymore?

I nearly bought an XF last year but the back seats are a bit claustrophobic with the raking back? But with 2 elderly people to take around from time to time bought a 5 series estate instead. It also holds more wood! :D

That of course Rod, is the critical thing with all motors and intended motors...how many 8' planks can you stuff into it? :lol: - Rob
