The Amphicar was an amphibious vehicle from the 1960s. It was made in West Germany and based on a Triumph Herald. Never really caught on and few were sold.
In the accident or when the 3 of you got hold of him?I was in the back of an argo once traversing a fairly steep hillside with a driver who was too gung ho for his own good. He rolled it.
I remember going over backwards, downhill, like a scuba diver entering the water and kicking up with my legs to keep it off me. Good job they're much lighter than a car !
3 of us in the back were OK. The driver was rewarded with a couple of cracked ribs !
Serious off roaders would simply open the doors so the water flows through and the wheels are sitting on the riverbed, assuming it's not too deep for the snorkel !Actually, BYD have less issues with flooding locally where I live than many ICE cars- all the HVDC is sealed, the only real point that would be of concern is the charge port- and that would be fine once its dried out...
I know the local BYD Seal in town has done well over 50cm out near the airport when it was flooded without issue- that would be a 'turn around and find another way' in the Corolla lol
My old Corolla on the other hand can only handle 25cm of water over the road before sucking water into its air intake!!!!
(at least the Merc can handle up to a metre before it becomes an issue- not for the motor, but for the air compressor intake- sucking water into that will destroy the compressor- and without that- no brakes!!!)
But by the time the waters over a metre deep- well, I'll just take the pushie and the tinnie (boat) in instead... deepest I have ever seen was a bit over 1.5m over the road...
We don't get any flow to speak of around here- it just collects and sits, so driving through water that deep isn't an issue- NEVER, EVER drive into 'flowing' water- if you can see it moving- don't drive into it if its deeper than the rims ie if the rubber at the bottom of the tyre is covered, thats enough with a fast flow to push most smaller vehicles sideways...
There was an amphicar kitcar made by Dutton in the 80's called the Mariner. The Amphicar was an amphibious vehicle from the 1960s. It was made in West Germany and based on a Triumph Herald. Never really caught on and few were sold.
