I'm from Southport, about 40 minutes from Liverpool, and I'm looking to buy some hardwood to start building wood work projects. I only need small amounts to begin with (I'm looking for 8 pieces of W - 35mm x T - 45mm x L - 600mm for my first project) but I can't seem to find anywhere that sells them locally or even within an hours drive. It needs to be hardwood, preferably Beech or something similar, but not just general timber which I can get at B&Q, Homebase, etc locally. Any help would be great, thanks.

I haven't been there in years but Ambrose McGrath in Fulton Street used to be very good.
Nothing fancy but you could have a root around.

Hello,

Ramsay timber in Appley Bridge is OK. They used to let you pick your own timber from the stacks, but no longer, sadly. They will get the stuff ready for you to collect if you phone up a day or two before you want to collect. They supply beech CND or super prime if that is what you want. Look on the website for other stuff thy supply, oak, ash, walnut, sapele etc. and good grade softwoods etc.

Hope this helps,

Mike.
