looking to buy a table saw to build some cupboards for a utility room, nothing to big but have been reading all kinds of reviews and so many say a certain saw is good and then you find others that say the saw is bad.

So the simple question is what do people think is the best saw for between £400 and £500

i don't have a full list of requirements but just want the saw to be relatively portable and as accurate as possible.

the ones that seem to be coming out on top at the moemnt are the dewalt dw745 and axminster ts 250m (anyone ideas on stock levels on this one?)

Chris

Check the motor type on the dewalt. Avoid brush motors - very noisy indeed

The axi is over twice the weight - important to stop it walking around when pushing though a large sheet and it definitely has an induction motor which will be nice and quiet.
Good back up from axi should you neeed it too.

that price a track saw is more suited to panel stock than a table saw.

in your budget and the quality of cut will be far superior.

can be used like a mite saw/ cross cut saw / panel saw and table saw.

dogs and things can be bought to speed up production plus the replaceable top of an mft not the mft as for 500 pounds its not worth it ! table saws a great but not the be all and end all.

regards richard .

I would strongly recommend the track saw. Festool or DeWalt. For what you are aiming to do, it will be far less hassle to achieve great results than with a £400 table saw.

Had you asked about a table saw or suitable alternative then I would also agree that a track saw is a good idea ( but would have suggested the makita version ) but you specifically asked about table saws so I have no comment :)

i don't really need to cut down any large sheets. so track saw is not really needed.

it will mainly be small square doors and some work involving angles on relatively small stock.

also intend to do other projects which will involve the saw so the question still stands, whats the best saw for that price range

+1 for the Axi, love mine and yes it is a lot less noisy than brush motors.

There is also a thread on here that the members have added to giving the table saws that they have and use. May give you a few ideas.

Good luck with your search :D

I am interested in the 745rs, mainly because of the portability. I don't really need one but I'd like one as it would be another machine that I will gain some skill with. I'd be interested in which one you choose and your reasons why. The thing with the 745 is that the fence has got people raving about it

The DW745 is Flippin noisy, I worked on one for a week and hate them
I would look at the stuff from Metabo - the newer TS254 or their older Elektra beckum or Magnum designs second hand
