3D printing is also an option, I had one made a few years ago. Can't remember what it cost but wasn't expensive. I think the company was called shapeways but I'm sure there are many more doing it now.
The 3D printing route really dropped the price on these - draw the design you want in whatever program you're familiar with, post it off to a half-dozen or so sites (the crowd I used has vanished, but search for "branding iron" on etsy for people who're doing the legwork as a service), and you get back a 3D printed lump of brass on a stick, essentially. If you don't need to be branding stuff every five minutes, it's a reasonable way to go, but I don't think it'd stand up to punching stuff in hardwood.
