Work has been a bit crazy lately but I thought it was time for an update.

First up is the shelves

The first mistake of the project. If you look closely ye can see a 1/8 inch slip glued onto the end of one of the shelves. While rushing to finish up to see the first Chelsea - Barsa match I cut one of the shelves 1/4 too short. Lucky for me 1/8 on each side and it was hidden in one of the dados.

Starting to put it all together here

Glued up with the backs on. unfortunately I can only get 3mm ash ply for this. It seems very strong but I might double this up yet. If anyone knows where it get 1/4 veneer ply over here ye might let me know.

Next up is the front rails which need a bevel to allow the door to open. Its very easy to mark up with my INCRA Precision T-Rule - 6''

For the base I needed to put in a spacer to make up for the differences in the ply sizes as I wanted to keep the distances between shelves exact. Also here applying the base moulding. Notice the lovely design on the wall behind the mitre saw. Anyone else as messy as me.

The top is next. Applying the moulding and then cut to size.

Applying the slips to cover the joint between the side rails and the mdf veneer panels.

Well thats the woodwork complete on the bookshelves themselves, now just the doors to complete. Actually I lots off sanding to do on them.

I thought that NoyeksNewmans might but it doesn't look like it. Have you tried woodworkers.ie? I haven't used them, just found their site the other day.

Cheers,
Neil

Looking very nice :) bit of a thread hijack but does anyone know of a good supplier of timber/ply/mdf in the East Anglia region?

cheers,
Kane

Looking good Neil (hope you're not a Chelsea fan, or else you messed for the sake of only more dissapointment! :? )

You also mention you have a lot of sanding to do on the shelves before getting on to the doors - did you not give them a thorough sanding individually before assembling them?

Oswaldo,
Yeah I did give them a good sanding before assembly but where I put on the shelf rails, side slips and base moulding needs some more. Also generally a bit more fine sanding all over. And no I'm not a chelsea fan, the special one wasn't so special over those couple of games.

Neil,
Thanks for the link to woodworkers.ie I'll give them a try next time cheers.

Neil
