Bookcase for a Designer

My current task using oak from Peover wood yard .A bookcase thats required for design books dvds etc in a modern flat sized to fit the space and minimise timber to make it easy to transport.
A different take on the usual bookcase what does the team think.

I was just thinking the opposite... I think this is more fit for purpose than normal bookcases insofar as the books etc will always stay stood up (i.e. no need for bookends etc). The angle could have been less but I think it needs to be exaggerated to work aesthetically.

I like them and agree that normal vertically-stored books give you more of a crick to read the titles than a sloped one would! Nice design.

This isn't about reading the titles or otherwise.....this design is all about having the books sit neatly on the shelf without a bookend. It is an excellent idea, and works well. I made one for a friend about 20 years ago.

Books on a horizontal shelf will fall over unless the shelf is full, or there is a bookend. On this shelf, they all lean neatly against each other. Really neat and simple.

Mine was even more radical, at about 30 degrees, from memory.

The other bonus is that it removes the danger of people putting a vase of flowers on your nice piece of furniture!

This isn't about reading the titles or otherwise.....

But it is an obvious and very welcome by-product of the slope angle, in addition to the lack of bookend benefit. Reading of the titles will definitely be easier - two birds with one stone!
