If you're only running a 700XL (as opposed to a 500 plus a 700XL) then the Seneca adaptor for smaller bits is very useful. On any Domino good extraction is essential for accurate cuts and to prevent the bit overheating, so you need to be sure your vac hose will fit.

They are incredibly expensive for what amounts to simple things.
A Thickness gauge for $55 ? It's a piece of plastic with a label stuck on it!
1/2" Shim for $37 ? Its a single flat piece of aluminium!
$70 for a cutter adaptor ?
This is bordering on the realms of "Quality HDMI Leads"

The feedback i got from most was that while the seneca adapters are well made and useful they do not allow full replacement of the DF500 with a Df700. I kind of think it's a case of they work well if you dont use the smaller tennons a lot but want the option but if you make a lot of stuff with the Df500 you'll want the DF500 and just buy the DF700 and take the financial agony that ensues

Interestingly when I mentioned to the festool rep that I had bought the seneca adapter for my 700xl so I could do all the things the df500 could, he just nodded in agreement. I expect this is something he finds with a lot of hobby users as they can't justify the cost of buying both.
I can't see why you would need the df500 if you have the 700xl with the seneca adapter so perhaps someone can enlighten me?
