My first major project after the workbench, i'm very much a beginner and although I'm happy with the end result there is much to improve on and many lessons to be learnt.

I planed all the timber by hand, I really wish I'd had a thicknesser as I think have all your material at the exactly the same size would have made it much easier.

I also had the timber delivered and it wasn't until I'd started I realised how rough it was, I'll definitely be picking the boards myself next time.

Onto the tenons, I hate them... Really hate them, due to the fact I cant hand saw straight xD I did the bed legs by hand then decided to goto the band saw and table saw for the slates and they came out better than I could have cut but I was still not 100% happy, a shoulder plane ? might have been helpful to square everything up and making a sleigh for the tablesaw.

I used some brackets that are screwed on, really good and not expensive. Will take some photos when I get chance

Little units an Ikea job, as much as I'd like to make everything I just don't have the time

The best way to learn to saw straight is just to keep doing it until it becomes second nature. You will develop muscle memory and confidence. It then becomes a joy instead of a chore. If you are not yet confident of sawing to a straight line on your tenons, saw slightly big and pare back with a chisel. You'll soon get the knack.

Oh! As you have learnt, don't let yard hands pick your timber for you. If you are having it delivered, pick it yourself, tape it together and put your name on it. Saves them a job, so they are happy for you to do it.
