Last year, it seems longer ago than that, an intrepid band of fearless woodies ventured into Suffolk for a bash.

And I am pleased to say we had a great time. =D>

Now would any of you fancy travelling to Suffolk this year?

I have outline agreement from the LOML that woodies are OK sort of people and are welcome to invade again. \:D/

For those of you who did not make it last year, here is link to the pictures I took, here is a link to the thread about the bash, unfortunately the pictures where hosted on freeshare which has stopped hosting pictures, I will try and find my ones and put them back into the thread.

I need to work out when to hold it, I want to go to Yandles the first weekend of September so that date is out.

It would be good to see if Mike Hancock (Classic Hand Tools) has a free weekend and can bring some goodies for us to drool over.

A volunteer or to two to demonstrate a skill or technique would be good. (Sound of all present taking a step backwards. )

So what do you think, do you want to come over or have you had a better offer? :-k

The where and when iis good to know, catch 22 though - it's hard to arrive at that before you know how many and who. If it helps stick me in the interested column pending further detail.

Cheers Mike

Dave - great to see that the Bash season is up and running. I'm interested but the event may well clash with forthcoming holiday dates in September - Rob

Hi Dave,

I enjoyed last year's event and would be interested. However, the only disappointment last year was that several people who wanted to attend were on holiday. It might be an idea to canvass opinions about dates as September seems to be a popular month for holidays.

Cheers

Hi Dave
Like Paul I enjoyed last years Bash and would love to come and play with the dogs again but I will be away in September like a lot of others,
is August out of the question ?.

Cheers Nigel

Sudbury is an awful long way from Colwyn Bay

However, we are attending a wedding bash in Hockley, Essex on August 23 and plan on travelling home on the Sunday. If it was around that time I might be able to make it (SWMBO permitting of course).

It would be nice to meet up with other forum members.

regards

Brian

Be great to attemd Dave if dates allow - happy to demonstrate something or other too

Already there :)

Sounds interesting, with the usual proviso about date clashes, SWMBO permission etc.

I can offer some knowledge on plane flattening, saw sharpening, and possibly scratch stocks.

I think saw sharpening has been pretty much "done" at UKW bashes, though, recent thread interest not withstanding.

You can never have too much information on saw sharpening. I reckon a session on that would be very popular.

Cheers

OK then I will look at dates in August as it sounds more popular. 8)

Bugbear, could you manage the trip to south most Suffolk?
I would like saw sharpening if you can make it, I have bought a saw vice and a selection of old saws to practise on but have not had the time to have a go.

Nigel, I guessed you would remember the dogs, if you have a bag of treats again you will still be their best friend. The kitten of last year, Daisy is now fully grown and patrols the workshop, both inside and on the roof.

So I will email Mike and see what he is doing but I know he will be away some of August.

Tony, its about time you ventured in this direction, it would be good to have a box or plane making demo.

I have upgraded to a gas barbecue so the cooking of food will be OK.

As last year please think about interesting stuff to bring, things you have made, tools to sell or swap, or even gloat with.

Any more ideas and suggestions are welcome.

Hi Dave,

Have just returned from a UK trip and was in Suffolk but with little time.

My next trip was planned to be in the Autumn (Sep or Oct) but I could possibly make it earlier. Unfortunately it is somewhat dependant on other people (one is a legal beagle..........well we all know how fast they move don't we  )

So will keep an eye on this thread and all being well I would be pleased to attend, and can bring lots of pigs ears and other goodies for the doggies and a few bottles with funny sounding names for the humans maybe

Hi Dave,

It's been a few years (and then some) Since I was in Suffolk. I was at Shotley, in 1954, so my memories aren't very nice ones! I won't hold that against Suffolk though! I will provisionally book myself leave for that one.

I have a writing tablet that needs a skiver. Anyone who is interested is welcome to watch me mess it up!
Regards
John
:D

Been meaning to answer this since you first posted Dave, so apologies for the delay.
Short answer is "yes please" - had a great time last year so definitely up for a repeat. Like everyone else it has to not clash with holidays, but since I don't yet know when they are (or even where, come to think of it  ) I'll just have to hope for the best. All I can say is if I'm here, I'll do my best to be there.

(and I promise not to leave the gate open and let the dog out this time  )

I'll be hiding in Mark's boot ;)

I think the family and I are going to Westonbirt, but otherwise any weekend should be ok.

if new people are welcome i might be interested (swimbo permitting) not sure about demonstration tho - unless anyone is interested in how to bugger up a bowl in three easy steps (I started turning again after a four month lay off and my natural touch seems to have deserted me :( )

alternatively I'm a trained paramedic so I could demonstrate "emergency first aid" - just after WiZer's demostration of Router skills maybe :D ;)

OK so some progress, I have just spoken to Alex of Classic Hand Tools and confirmed that they will be able to send over someone to tempt us with nice shiny tools, on Saturday 30 August. \:D/

So put that date in your diary. 8)

So if there is anything that you would like Classic Hand Tools to bring for you to look at, try out and possibly buy then let me know.

For those who came over last year, I will not have the marque this year, but a large gazebo will be up to hopefully provide protection from the large orange thing in the sky. 8-[
There will be dogs (you are Iona's friend as soon as you walk in the gate) and if you are very lucky you may even see the cats, but they tend to disappear when visitors turn up. Losos, if you can turn up with pigs ears you will be mobbed, you may get a little time to look at the woodworking stuff.

John (Benchwayze) has volunteered to bring a writing tablet to which he is going to fit a skiver, I have never done anything like that so look forward to that.

I hope one of our plane making members will be alone to demo some if not all of the skills involved.

I also have a few bits that I don't need any more, so figure a small scale swap meet could be useful.

Big Soft Moose, you don't have to bring anything to demonstrate, but your services as a paramedic could be useful if WiZeR does travel in Marks boot.

I will sort out an email detailing how to get here and where here is, to send out to all those who are interested, closer to the time.

I am not a big kid :^o but this does produce the same excitement as waiting for a birthday to come round, so hopefully everything will come together.

Well I'm pretty gutted, it's just been announced at the weekend that we are on holiday from the 23-30th of August. Going with the out-laws for a week by the sea so I have no say regarding dates. This neatly takes out both my chances of Westonbirt and Dave's bash at a stroke.

It gets worse, guess where we are going to be.

Yep, Norfolk!  So close, yet so far away. :x :(

aggghhh!

Typical, there goes my free ride! ;)

Edit: actually, thinking about it, we're in Tewksbury that week so I probably won't make it :(
