Actually all may not be lost, I've been given the OK to go on the bike while the girls (wife and daughter) go in the car. This will give me the opportunity to dip into Dave's on the way home on Saturday - as well as avoiding boredom during the week with the occasional blast round the lanes. (WiZer's still out of luck for that lift though :-({|= ).

Looks like you can count me back in after all Dave. \/ - Now watch it pour down all week.

I'm off to Sheringham for the potty festival.It's a nice part of the world.I would have liked to have attended this get together but i am at a friends wedding on the 30th.Never been to Suffolk and always wanted to.I'ts one of only a handful of counties i haven't visited.Maybe next time.

Yes, it is pretty good up here - agree that the North Norfolk coast is better - Holkham Bay is a personal favourite. For a sandy beach, good for children but without all the 'amusements' and the crowds of Gt Yarmouth, Winterton-on-sea takes some beating, IMO.

Assuming this bash is still on, would anybody be interested in me bringing my type holder?

This is a sturdy "punch", that takes interchangeable steel letters.

Think of it as a John Bull set that uses brute force instead of ink.

Attendees could name (or otherwise label) wooden items (can't do metal items, the letters aren't hardened).

The letters are 3/16", and the holder can do around a dozen of them at a time. A close grained fine surface is best - e.g. beechwood endgrain.

Please bring your punch, along with saw sharpening kit, I have collected together, I think all that I need to get back into it and would like to compare, make notes and take yet more pictures.

I hope the bash is still on, how about a show of hands to allow numbers to be guesstimated?

If you have any requests for stuff you would like Mike of Classic Hand Tools to bring over then let me know. It was great last year to get to try things out, I bought rasps which without trying would have been a bit dubious of parting with money for.

Anyone got any nice new toys, er I mean tools they can bring to show and tell, go on make the rest of us turn green you know you want to.

One word of warning to anyone who did not attend last year, there will be dogs and cats. You will not see much of the cats but you cannot avoid the dogs, so if you have a total dislike for them, this is not the bash for you, sorry.

I do have a grotty old #43 if anybody would like to see how a 1/4" thick plough iron performs (bit like using a JCB to clear grass clippings)

Will bring dog goodies and maybe pilchards (well, something for inscruitable small furry things anyway.)

The location is just outside Sudbury, Suffolk on 30/08/08 at midday.

So same sort of set up as last year, send me an email to [email protected] please say who you are, both in real life and on the forum, that saves me getting confused it doesn't take much these days.

I have a document that I will send back to you giving full details of the address and how to get here and contact me if required. I work it like this as I don't want that info freely available on the internet.

Mike Hancock of Classic Hand Tools or one of his merry men will be along with nice things to try and buy. So far there has only been one request, if there is anything that you would like them to bring then let us know and he will try and do so.

I am trying to persuaded large son to go along to cook for us again, I have bought a gas barbecue to made it a little more predictable.

Please bring something to eat, not loads but if everyone brings a little we will once again have a feast for all of us to enjoy.

I don't drink, well that statement is technically incorrect but you know what I mean, if you want beer then please bring a few cans along. I remember that last year most went back still in the cans, so don't bring loads.

If you have anything that you have made and can get it in the car, on the train or bike that we might like to look at then bring it.
If you have any unusual tools that you can gloat with don't be shy, as if.

If you have anything to swap or sell bring that as well.

Oh and did I mention there will be dogs and you will be Iona's best friend once you come though the gate. :roll:

Well I have cut the grass and put up the gazebo. Iona has already tried to run though one of the mesh sides :roll: , her level of excitement has started to rise, even quicker than mine.

Alex or David from Classic Hand Tools will be along with a car full of nice things to touch, maybe try and possibly buy. Be careful these chaps have a greased Slope TM all of their own. :wink: If there is anything that you would like them to bring in particular, it's not too late to let me know and I will ask them nicely, only had one request so far.

Large son (Joe) should be along to slave over the barbecue to ensure that we are well feed after an afternoon of overdosing on wood, tools and chat.
