But do you really want to know who the real plonkers are in all of this? Why our good old Labour Government who bailed out the banks by buying preference shares. Preference shares don't have any voting rights so the Govt can jump up and down all it likes but the banks can simply give them two fingers as the Govt haven't got any voting rights - which they would have done had they bought normal shares. So Golden B*ll**ks and Chancer Darling are the 2008 Pillocks of the Year.

Preference shares have other (in the circumstances, massive) advantages, and only a ****** would have invested the money through ordinary shares.

Tell us more, Jake.

The next morning. :)

Doctor. Your post described the situation but you glossed over the rise in interest rates.

Quote.
In 2006, inflationary pressures in the US caused interest rates to rise to 4%. Normally 4% interest rates are not particularly high. But, because many had taken out large mortgage payments, this increase made the mortgage payments unaffordable.

End quote

Bank rates rose around the world most probably because of looming inflation, commodity prices were rising, which one, oil, how much did it eventually rise 150%?.
Oil was part of the problem, I could afford the oil rise, but billions of others could not, (I dont have a mortgage)
The crunch would have come anyway as you say because people had overstretched themselves.
I cannot blame them, why shouldn't everyone want to own a home.

Where has all the money gone, someone must have benefited if it is real money. If it is not real, what are we all excited about.

The problem is Newt, when the banks loaned this this virtual money, even to folk who could pay it back, they demanded that the repayments be in 'Real Money'.
That isn't some sarcastic aside. It is precisely how they work. So mortgagees still have to worry.

There is the true crime of the Millenium.

Am I the only one that smells a rather large rat ?

Some of the older long established banking institutions with nigh-on a 500 year history, that weathered (by comparison) far worse financial disasters historically ( the great depression of almost the entire decade of the 1920's, the general strike etc etc etc..) go completely to the wall almost overnight and 'didn't see it coming' ?

Yeah, right .. and my head zips up the back.

We are being driven towards a Single global bank, and mark my words here, that'll be quickly followed by a single global army, a single global law enforcement agency and so on.
It's been 'well-more' than hinted at by Bush, Blair and many others.

here is a little concept you may or may not think holds water ....
1. "Invent" a problem
2. Convince the populous that the problem exists
3. Propose the solution.

End result.. gain 'control' in the full accuracy of the word.

Have a little dig into the NEW WORLD ORDER.
the evidence is somewhat compelling, if not to say frightening.
None of us are above being conned

Don't know about a NWO.

But I do read - sometimes.

I read the banks 'Make' virtual money to loan to industry - to pay us - to pay taxes on - to keep the Government in power - to make money... etc.

The same article said that Governments do need us to be scared. If we weren't, we might have time to stop and think things through. Which they wouldn't want. They need us to be their wage slaves! Where else would they get the money to waste?

I think I have heard this conspiracy theory before somewhere. I suppose if it's shouted often enough, someone somewhere will believe it. Someone will be saying next that it's Industrialists who rule, not Governments.

The government are trying to get us to spend money to revive the economy. Take our situation, which could be the same for many others.

Ten pence in the pound income tax abolished. Means less income ( we are in the bracket that did not receive compensation).

Utility bills doubled. Less money to spend.

Interest rates down from 6% to 1%. Less money from savings etc.

Overall less income and more expenditure, so how is a reduction in VAT of 2.5% going to tempt us to spend money.

I would have thought an increase in the tax threshold would have helped more, to give people some extra money to start.

But there again what do I know, I am just a member of the taxpaying public that now have shares in the banks that caused the problem in the first place.

What I don't understand is why farmer Brown wants to put more chickens in the coop when the foxes are still in there! Surely he should get rid of the foxes (without golden chickens) before he re-stocks.

Jenx, have you been listening to Adam Curry? He's been talking like that for a while now. I find him very entertaining, but not too sure if I believe the whole conspiracy theory in this case.
Neil

Hi Neil ....
to many and various 'learned' people yes, ! ... Ian Crane, Jordan Maxwell, Zecharia Sitchin, Michael Tsarion, Hunter S. Thomson, etc etc ....
Some years ago, I was fascinated by Hitler's obsession with the occult and why he effectively turned his back on the western front, to go poking around in the desert, searching for 'something' ...
and the interest and all the various offshoots have stemmed from there.

Like many - I love a good conspiracy theory ....
I cant say that I believe everything I read, but the reverse side of that coin is that I can't say that I don't.

It's fascinating to question the way the world is presented and represented to us... and we all are subjected to the biggest hypnotist in the world every day.. in the corner of our living rooms... the TV. !
I'll try and qualify that statement a bit ... my dad, bless his little soul, hasto see every news bulletin from the BBC every day... and he does this because he completely trusts what he gleans from these transmissions, because 'well its the BBC.. its quality broadcasting.. its a british institution' -- he doesn't like me telling him.. "Dad, what your're getting is what the BBC want , or are instructed to give you.. don't you think you should question it"? .... but he doesn't. :D

I think thats perhaps a slightly dangerous and slightly irresponsible way to get informed.

Its good to question things, or perhaps I should say I believeits good to question things - not everyone would share that opinion perhaps.

It usually makes for quite lively and sometimes heated debate... but that in itself is a healthy way to be... i think !

Jenx,
I can't disagree with any of the above, I'm quite partial to a good conspiracy theory myself. :D

Oh come on. You'll be telling me next that 9/11 was a US inspired con, that Armstrong didn't land on the moon and that the Labour Govt is the worst we've had. OK - I slipped the last one in.

Your half way there Roger ... you 'know' about them !

Tell you what though, just 'floating an idea' for a moment....
The US's biggest industry for many a year was defence, ok ?

End of the cold war comes ... No longer do we have the Russian / Soviet Bear for an enemy to justify keeping this huge industry ( US Defence Industry ) turning ....

There's no way on this earth that the US will 'upset' China .. its afforded China 'special status' after all... and its now its biggest trading partner.. so there's no danger of any 'crossed swords' there ... so ............ ( here it comes  ..... )

Anyone with half a brain in the US Corridors of power realises.... " hey - we gotta 'manufacture' a new 'enemy' for ourselves guys, our massive defence industry which drives a huge sector of our entire economy, utterly depends on the continuity of having an 'enemy' .....

Step forward Mr Bin Ladin ( albeit not of your own accord possibly )... and while we are at it ... lets go for Saddam, who somehow we manage to convince 90% of the western world is OBL's ally.. despite them being bitterly opposed to one anothers views ( ).
Why did we leave Saddam in power in Gulfwar 1 again ? oh yes... it helped to justify our defence industry for another 10 yrs, thats right !
Did you know... Saddam was neither invited to, or attended the surrender meeting in GW1 ? Strange when he was the leader of the surrendering nation, or am i too cynical for one so young ?

Come on Roger.. you surely concede its at least a theory that does a reasonable job of standing up on its own ? :D

And the moon ... not a chance !
Ruskies NEVER landed on it.. never claimed to have ... and we never went back ?
JFK said in 61 ( or 62.. I cant remember which ) .. "we'll do it by the end of the decade".. and from that moment on, its 'fate' was sealed.
We didnt have microwave ovens in 1969 ... we certainly didn't have the capability to go through the van allan radiation belt, and we dont now either....
But we could land in a hollywood studio without too much problem.
Gus Grisham was going to spill the beans.. and we know what happened to him.

Course we landed on the moon .. I saw it myself.. on the BBC :p :p :p :p

As stated.. I think its healthy to keep a very open mind.
Not everything is always as it seems, I'm sure. :D :D :D

Ever heard of a place called Bohemia Grove ? .. check it out !!
theres something 'highly improper' going on there every year ! :D

While i'm on a bit of a roll.... have a wee 'investigate' on the gentleman called Prescott Bush... yes, Dubya's gran-pappy .... The man who is recorded as having desecrated Geronimo's grave .. ( he 'grave-robbed' Geronimo's grave !!!! ) ... and 'took back' some rather significant contents of said grave to a 'certain nondescript building' on the campus of Yale university ... Slightly unusual behaviour perhaps ? ... just a bit !...
Honestly - I kid you not.... start really "digging"... I don't mean just a fleeting passing interest every little while, but really digging into stuff, if you've not done so already... there's some very odd things to unearth !

Lively debate is great fun.. and probably very very healthy !

That made me laugh at 7.20am, a good start to the day. :) :) :)
I think we ought to have a greenie system on this forum like the aussies do.
So a greenie to you.

(nothing to do with politics, honest, just a good political joke)

Check your fac`s again ,we sent all of our jobs outside of the USA ...and everyone in the world has been digging up graves for centurys now....its against the law here to dig anyone`s grave(esp.Indians) here.Serious prison time.I know of a few people who found a bowl laying on top of the ground (indian type) and were prosecuted for having it....Proveing leave it alone.

It is very reassuring to know that 'pie in the sky' Cameron and 'jam tomorrow' Brown have this forum to fall back on when they run out of stupid ideas of their own

Richard

:p Fair point. :p
and at one time, it was thought a preposterous and stupid idea to think the world could have the audacity to be spherical

When David Blaine levitated or Paul Daniels cut Debbie McGhee in half ... it didn't 'really' happen..

Things are not necessarily always what they seem, eh

Keep smilin :D
Its all right for some, but its always better for others, someplace
