HIn Tony, that hour is not wasted at all. Time taken to learn a skill; is well worth it and it has shown you that the correct tension is so important. Thats why setting up without any guides anywhere near the blade is essential.

I made exactly the same mistakes you have made when I started and I guess most of the other members did as well, so count it as a plus, not a minus. The 1/4" and 5/8" will be good, particularly from Tuffsaw. Good luck.

+1 for Tuffsaw blades, and an "extra definite" +1 for Steve Maskery's band saw videos.

I was like you a while back (apart from your machine being MUCH better than mine!) and knew absolutely nothing about band saws. The small sum I invested in Steve's videos was definitely very well worth it - I now approach band saws with both knowledge and confidence.

Steve's a member of this Forum and can be found under the name Workshop Essentials. A good name that 'cos as a beginner I believe that the band saw videos really are just that - essential.

HTH, and usual disclaimers. Good luck.

Looking at your photo's, the table is missing, do you have it?
If not, then you will not be able to cut anything. Axminister should be able to help.

Cheers for info, all appreciated, and bob I do have the table, I just removed it to set it up, very heavy table, almost dropped it as wasn't expecting it to be so heavy lol
