Axminster have put prices up and not just by the 2.5% vat increase.

Seems like they think we will have even more money in our pockets to buy tools in 2011. I appreciate that with vat and fuel going up they have to look to put the price up but a Lie-Nielsen plane that was £115.50 before the 4th Jan is now £121.96 an increase of £6.46.
The original price before vat was £98.30 and with the 20% vat should only make it £117.96 so Axminster have put their price up quite a lot by £3.34 to £101.64 and then the increased vat at 20%.

Should start getting better soon to start shipping direct from the states.

I've had my eye on a load of Axy stuff, the things I've been looking at have gone up by about 14%! I should have bought before the new year, but couldn't put the money together in time. Oh well :)

dont forget that most of their stuff is imported, so the weaker pound means that they are paying more - they absorbed this in order to stand by their 2010 catalogue prices - but it is only reasonable that they take it into account when setting their 2011 price

Why IS a bottle of Becks three times the price of a half glass of Becks? 8)

Because somebody has already drunk the other half from the glass?

Si.
P.S. never trust half a half empty glass of beer - it might not actually be beer...

And also the unnamed law of You Can Only Rip Someone Off Once :ho2

Unless you work in banking then you can rip anyone off any time you please.

Hopefully Axminster will carry more stock or use suppliers who are interested in supplying goods this century now they have increased their prices, as a lot of the stuff I have wanted recently has been out of stock for weeks on end.

You only need three tools

Gaffa tape: for when it moves but shouldn't.

WD40 for when it doesn't move, but should.

A hammer. If the hammer don't fix it then you have correctly diagnosed an electrical fault.

Thank god the price of Gaffa tape and WD40 has stayed the same and the prices of hammers has only gone up by 2.23%!

hmmmm.....

last time I looked in the old catalogue the CT150 Planer was £457, now it's £538.....

Never mind though, just sold my used one for £300 cash on ebay :p so not all bad.

Just ordered a Jet 16-32 Drum sander, suprisingly enough, not from Axminster (£811) but from DB Keighley (£702) Axminster are going to look extremely pricey until at least June !

Chris.

Bought one of the new Veritas skew block planes from Dieter Schmidt in Berlin for about about £170 (inc carriage) just before Christmas. At the time Axminster wanted £200 but are now asking £226. That's a big hike and Dieter Schmidt's price is still the same. I am a fan of Axminster but..... I have used Dieter Schmidt before and their service is excellent. At the same time I sold my 12 year old copy of the much inferior LN was equivalent. When I bought itplane from Tilgear, it cost me £75 (seemed like a lot at the time) but, after a polish up, it made a handsome £151 on eBay, so the cost to change was less than £25. Not bad eh.

I've been saving for the AWVSWL1200 lathe, £880 up to £995! best keep saving...... unless anyone knows of the same model imported by someone else?

I've £299.00 quid here ready for the ts200 if axminster want it :D

Same here. Flaming typical, I finally take the plunge and the flippin thing is out of stock. Grrrrrrrrrrrr
I ordered it anyhoo but, if they don't honour the sale price on the new one then I'll probably cancel.

Thought you would like to know assuming you dont already, Record are holding their 2010 prices till May (ie pre vat increase) according to a brochure I got through today.

It came with my new Startrite Morticer \:D/ - Had to get it in somehow.

Axi now list the veritas LA Jack at £278 compared to Elliots who still have it at £204! I love Axminster but store loyalty doesn't stretch that far!
