Does anyone know if Axminster usually have a New year/Jan sale?

I got some christmas dosh burning a hole in my pocket

I don't know where you are but they should be opening a new store here in High Wycombe at the end of the month - surely some bargains to be had???

Brian

I cannot wait and was called a 'sad git' by my wife when I mentioned it with excitement to my nephew who lives nearby.

She cannot understand what we find to study in their catalogue for hours on end.

And then in Ireland...

The shipping costs tend to deter a lot of people from buying large Axminster stuff but that also applies to every other large tool retailer. Even an agent for Axminster would be good because then viable loads could be sent here more cost-effectively.

And I for one am looking forward to that 25 mins in the car to Axminster, overdraft beware lol

But as for the OT, I would imagine some bargains to be had at a new store opening, even if just to get the punters in...

Sorry, we are not looking for any premises in Ireland.

I thought that was a very interesting comment from Richard of Axminster, I'd have thought they would welcome new businesses in Ireland.
On another tack, Richard. You didn't say whether you would have any bargains on the opening of your new store?

There will be some promotions when the new store opens, I believe it will be sent out via email and advertised in the local press.

Keep your eyes pealed!

Richard,

I am really stunned (and somewhat shamed) by your reply. I would have imagined new business, especially quality business like yours, would have been eagerly grabbed at in Dublin.

How about the Belfast area which is in UK? Dublin is central but Belfast attracts lots of buyers from Rep. of Ireland because of the strength of the Euro and, logistically, the infrastructure is good for shipping and then for distribution.

I'm amazed to hear that too. If that was more than a year ago, it might be worth trying again as I would guess that anyone dealing with commercial property would be interested in any potential client at the moment!

How about Athlone - quite well connected for the whole country (and only 40mins drive for me  ) and there are plenty of UK-based retailers there.

BMac, McBrides in the North have some sort of arrangement with Axminster and can source machinery & deliver it to the South - delivery for my Jet planer (~150kg) was £50. Alternatively there is a guy in Kildare who takes a van to Axminster every once in a while - let me know if you are interested and I'll dig out his details.

Cheers,
Neil

We spent well over a year looking for looking for suitable premises in or around Dublin, but doors seem to close very quickly when they find out we are a UK company

I am very surprised by this. Apart from anything else, many of the most popular high street shops in this country are owned by UK companies (Tesco, M&S, Argos, Boots, etc.). In addition, the likes of B&Q and Homebase are extremely popular here too.

Several years ago I bought some bulkier items of machinery, sourced from Axminster, via the guy in Kildare that Neil mentioned in his earlier post. It proved only a little cheaper than buying direct and paying the shipping charges, but as I collected the kit it sorted out the delivery headache of having to be home when the delivery arrived (it is amazing how much stuff you can fit in a relatively small car when you have to! :) )! . Generally speaking though I am happier buying direct because it eliminates questions about how to deal with the likes of warranty claims.

At the time, that supplier told me that there was a lot of demand for products from Axminster, and I would imagine that hasn't changed much. There are very few local retailers here that offer a decent range of tools and machinery for the woodworker, and those that do offer a reasonable range tend to charge a significant premium for them. Personally, I'd be delighted to see an Axminster branch open up over here and I'm sure a lot of other people would be equally thrilled.

Sorry for another tangent to this thread, by the way.
