I wish to work and earn through Autocad from my home. What can I do for that? I have sound knowledge in AutoCAD. Anybody wants AutoCAD drawing, If they give the drawing, I wish to draw the AutoCAD drawings and earn from that. But, I wish to work from my home. What can I do for that?

The problem you have to some degree is that drawing is iterative (in my experience) and it makes it a lot easier if you can instruct, doodle, whatever the changes and face to face is a lot easier.

I wouldn't know how CAD would work if the CAD Tech is remote. But if the costs savings are there - hey might be an idea.

But initially you would need to go round various small practises etc. and pitch for work. Showing a portfolio etc. perhaps even doing the 1st one or 2 for peanuts, or on a "if it's crap - don't pay" basis. Wouldn't have thought it would interest the larger places as they probably employ their own staff.

Might be an idea to talk to local fabrication places - they do the work, but CAD isn't their bread and butter and sometimes they need the drawings in CAD, but end up turning the work down as the client can't do it himself and feels it's going to cost an arm or a leg getting someone to do it or not knowing where to go.

Also the popularity of Sketchup doesn't help what you want to do.

Hi

It depends what your knowledge is I think. Autocad is an extremely powerful tool and whilst it isn't especially difficult to gain a level of operator skill, that isn't enough really just on it's own IMO.

A couple of the main industries to target are engineering and contruction where whilst the large companies will have in house facilities, most of the smaller ones will not and must outsource the drawings.

My experience is in construction and there is a market for supply of plans but you really need a knowledge of building regs and current specifications as well as materials available to do the job properly.
A number of building inspectors draw up plans in their spare time.

I used to teach autocad to gnvq students at a local colledge btw.

Not so sure about engineering though.

cheers
