Hi Steve,

I was thinking of going because I believe Robert Ingham is one of the exhibitors demonstrating how he makes his delightful boxes. Not sure yet whether I can make it but will let you know.

Paul

PS Is the avatar the chair you have just made? Looks nice.

OK,
Well, Paul, (and anyone else, if you decide to go - it's a grand day out) if you fancy meeting up, shall we say 12noon at Robert Ingham? :)

Cheers
Steve
PS Yes, that's my nice new chair.

Took SWMBO to see Robert Ingham and his dovetail jigs. She loved his boxes and a wych elm box by Peter Lloyd. :) She bought a small tray from Toby Winteringham and admired the ingenious handles on a student piece from Bucks. :D She even watched a pole lathe demo!

Whay hey ! 8)

On our return home this evening she still complained about the dust I made with my first play with a borrowed tailed router! :?

Ho Hummmm! Life returns to normal.

What a great day out though. Very nice Pimms too.

Hi Steve,

Sorry, but I won't now be able to make it - some relations have decided to come round for lunch  Disappointing because it sounds like it is a good day out. Maybe next year .......

Paul

Well we've just got home.
Part of me thinks "same old, same old", which is very churlish really, as the standard of just about everything is astronomical. We bought a nice piece of glass, so I've got to design something to display it now.

Had a good conversation with Paul Gower. He is setting up a teaching workshop in Dorset, got some big names lined up as lecturers. He's just dealing with Planning Permission and The Neighbours, but it looks like he will have a nice set-up, I'm very tempted.

I also did 1.5 hours in a stone lettering workshop. Great fun, and MUCH more difficult than it looks. I've never done any carving, but I've always thought that carving stone would be better than carving wood. It just seems a more suitable material, somehow. Is that heresy? Is there a Forum Rule against expressing such views? I hope not. Even if there is, I'm unrepentant. Raspberry. :)

Anyway, a Good Day Out. Catch it next year.

Cheers
Steve

glad you had a good day steve, and interesting to see someone
actually trying stone carving in this modern age.

my dear old dad used to be a mason, and my cousin and his son
do it now. indeed my cousin martin is doing the lettering on
the bali memorial which will be placed in london later this year.

i can remember as a lad how little my dad got paid for 8 hours spent
bent over a grave stone, and carvers often got even less for the
most amazing work. :(

the saddest part recently was to find that the retail price difference
between hand carved lettering on a grave stone, and machine
carved is less than a quid a letter.

paul
