Turning MDF into gold in a northern town
I just looked at an email from Rutlands, and noticed this.

http://www.rutlands.co.uk/cabinet-hardw ... less-steel

I'm sure they're very nice and all that, but £33 for a metal knob!

I thought that price must be for a box of 25, but no - thats each!

I pay a bit over a pound each for a brushed nickel knob that is almost indistinguishable from this.

I'm stunned....

yes I paid £60 for a pair of Brusso hinges last year...

As soon as I read the thread and saw "Rutlands" I knew it would be Brusso.

They always seem massively overpriced for what they are.

Cheers

hi

Now you know why where in a recession nobody buys them at that price . You'd think buy now companies would start to reduce there product , every where i look every thing is still going up in price will they ever learn :?: :duno: . hc

The thing that annoys me about Rutlands is, once a week i get an e-mail offering 30 to 40 percent off an item. The next week another deal on a different item.

This happens week in week out, & makes me feel that for 51 weeks of the year i`m being ripped of for a tool that for 1 week will be greatly discounted.

I don`t buy much off them now, as like others have noted before, sods law being as it is, whatever i buy chances are it will be discounted the following week.

If they can afford to sell week by week, one off items at reduced prices, WHY don`t they just supply a catalogue with sensible prices.

I for one would buy more off them if they did.

I totally agree Doug. Rutlands are always the last place I look if I am after something. Ever eBay comes before Rutlands on my list.

Imagine a kitchen with say 40 -50 knobs on it, £2500.
I always put handles down as an extra anyway because they can be a lot of difference in customers choices but thats ridiculous.

Having said that, I used stainless steel drawer runners on my Chelsea outdoor kitchen, paying for those was eyewatering.

Handles, knobs I always list as extra. Brass knobs for the kitchen last year came from Rutlands and weighed in at £13.00 + vat. Total of 35. Glad the customer chose then and paid for them.

Looking at rutlands description reff stainless steel, the words (suitable for marine application) Soon as that is mentioned the prices seem to be so bloody high it makes you wounder if they sell any.

Look at other suppliers of marine fixings, fittings etc there all the same, expensive.

I tend to include knobs and handles in my prices, and give my customers a choice from my favourite supplier. Prices range from around £1 - £4 each

If they want anything different they are welcome to order them up themselves and I will fit them.

Having been stung in the past over customers choosing expensive handles I now quote for them separately usually with a small 25% markup from trade prices.

Some people like to spend this sort of cash on hardware just to impress their friends.... I'd prefer to spend to 30 quid on a decent set of Soss hinges.

Check out item 196 on this site http://www.arciron.com/brassart1.html
Not to my taste, but would be happy putting a 50% markup on these
