Are storage heaters safe in a workshop?

Not saying they're not, Simon, but after some clarification. Surely with electric heating then kilowatts in = kilowatts out. So it doesn't really matter what type of convecting type heater is used.

100% correct .. the only difference between brands is surface area for efficient convection or radiation

The next main questions are of fan assisted /element life / guarantee / cost come into play

The bottom line is probably Argos wins :p
 
Yes Neil - electric heaters (not the bar type) should be safe for use in a workshop. By storage - I'm assuming that to mean the oil filled ones. They have thermal cut outs\fuses - so the risk of going spectacular is negligible.

The other types (excluding bar type) - someone will pipe up.

I assume you mean the sort that are full of bricks, with an element between the bricks, and charge up overnight on so-called "cheap" electricity? I had one in my last workshop, and it was fine. It sat directly behind the bandsaw, so inevitably got dust on/in it. Tried to remember to clean this out with the shop vac from time to time, but I'd say they are inherently pretty safe. And at the time, relatively cheap to run, especially in a well-insulated shop.
But 'leccy prices have changed a lot since then :(
