I think the notion of dumping the venom and bad manners into a sharpening forum, that would then IMHO become an unused ghetto, is a poor one.

Sharpening is not the cause of the trouble - many threads other than sharpening have degenerated into bad temper.

Sharpening is discussed (often :D ), by people with strongly opposing priorities, preferences and practices on other forums and mailing lists without discourtesy.

I don't see how having a specific section would sideline it , however I think its an inherent problem with any forum and the responses to this thread have made that clear that whatever your talking about different opinions and debates start to appear , whether it be facebook , twitter , or ukws its the nature of social media to have a debate and some people (not all ) enjoy stirring things up and this site is no exeption

I am a newbie to hand tools and sharpening and have received some sound advice on the sharpening subject

I tried to avoid any war breaking out by focusing on technique rather than weapon of choice

best way to deal with someone looking for a reaction is to just ignore them it hurts them more if they don't get a response
