I have an FM/AM tuner/amplifier in the workshop and have been looking out for a cheap way to add digital radio to it.
A stand-alone DAB capable Hi-Fi tuner would fit the bill but they are generally too big and expensive.
The Majority Robinson could be the answer (with the bonus of Bluetooth) but there doesn’t appear to be any stock anywhere so I am considering one of the DAB adapters designed for in-car use. There seems to be quite a few around the £50 mark that run off a USB supply (ideal as the 12v car power lead can be swapped for a standard 240v USB charger) plus have aux-out as well as able to transmit the DAB signal as FM.
As an example….

@phil p, one of these may meet your requirement with the option of connecting it to your RCA inputs or using the FM transmit capability.

Has anyone tried one? Are they any good?
If not, I might need to take one for the team and buy one. 😅
That’s interesting however like you say, will it work though?
My T.V. does have USB ports so I think that could power it?
On a side note I emailed Majority on Saturday and they have halted the production of the Robinson for some reason, they looked really good aswell, small and compact.

Thanks for the info regarding the Majority Robinson. Don’t suppose they indicated how temporary the halt In production is likely to be?

It didn’t sound good. They didn’t know whether they would be back in stock and had been paused for production.
I even checked eBay/Gumtree and there was nothing to be found.

Thanks for that.
I’ve pulled the trigger and bought one of the units I linked to earlier. Paid just over £30 from a popular auction site. I’ll keep you posted.

Thanks, I’m interested in how that works out for you. Hope it works.

Bluetoof has a degree of latency; which in the case of an audio system isn't an issue; but if used for audio from a tv to hifi (or similar) can be an issue. Latency means a degree of out of sync audio paired to the actual source (as noted when you can see the actual speaker).

The unit I suggested has RCA outputs; delivers a decent signal and performs well by all accounts. As previous - remember the olde KISS principle... Get a DAB tuner and link it to your Bose system.

As regards powering any external usb device by a tv set etc., far better to power those devices externally.

Evri just delivered the DAB adaptor and pleased to say it works well. In addition it was very easy and only took a few minutes to set up….

Plugged antenna in then connected to a mains power adapter with the supplied USB lead. Unit powered up and found 70 odd stations then started transmitting on 87.5MHz FM. All I had to do to get started was tune my receiver to that frequency.
I have now got it connected via the Aux socket (which disables the FM transmitter).
The supplied antenna is designed to be stuck in a car windscreen but worked still in the packet shoved in the workshop window. Now wedged behind a piece of conduit (still in packet).
The unit has a metal disc on the reverse so it stuck to my air filter with a magnet

That’s great HJ, really glad it works. And you’re definitely receiving DAB stations?

That’s excellent H.J. it was worth the gamble and it’s paid off!
Well done.

In case you’re interested, this is a link to the unit I bought….

I paid £31.96 inc delivery (not sure why but there is a discount applied when you checkout).

You can use one to add DAB to your Bose 321.
If you’re happy to connect via the FM tuner, the only extra bit you’ll need beyond what’s in the box, is a 240v USB power adapter.
If you want to connect the to the Bose with a cable you’ll also need a 3.5mm stereo jack to 2x phono lead (the phono connections will go in the red/white Aux sockets on the Bose).

Thanks again HJ as I was wondering if that was any good for my system and if I needed any further leads etc.
Appreciate you getting back to me.
Phil.

Glad it's worked for you. I think I'll get one too and connect it to the site radio I use in my workshop. Mind you I'll have to clean the window so I can stick the antenna up.
Thanks for the tip.
Martin
