Any knowledgeable Hi-Fi Buffs out there?

Thanks to everyone who has responded with advice. I know a 'home approval trial' would be a good idea, but really I just want speakers that give me a pleasant listening experience for Classics and Jazz, and Dire Straits and ABBa of course. I live in a detached house so worrying my neighbours isn't a problem, unless I open windows and treat the world at large to the 1812, complete with cannon! My son is going to take me into Brum, to Richer Sounds, next weekend so we shall see what we come away with!
