Hello there
I hope you enjoy the forum as much as I do, this is a great bunch of people
On the hand tool front have a go with a japanese saw, they are brilliant!!! Not as a replacement for are more traditional style saw but as another option. Also a good router and good bits are a must
Have fun mate

@devonwoody - Sorry to dissapoint but I don't have the free space to wait for it to dry out nor the brains/experience yet to work out what projects I could use the odd-lengths for after removing the horribly splintered ends when it's only low-grade softwood. If it had been a huge flotilla of nice hardwood which had ended up washed ashore I might have risked it... ;)

@Yorkie - Well, you know what they say - a stolen chip always tastes better... yep, I do love a good bargain hunt. :)

@Escudo - Thanks Tony, good to meet you too.

@woof - Great county, Sussex. I just wish I'd been woodworking back in '87 as we were awash with scrap hardwood down here... ah well...

@richburrow - Yep, looking forward to getting my japanese saw. The large kataba I'm getting will mainly be used to getting timber down to size, I'm then probably going to make my mind up after that whether I go on to buy a douzouki and ryoba or whether I go down the panel and tenon saw route.

Hi Dave
Welcome to the forum - good to see another Brightonian on here. I think the old tool shop referred to earlier might be Leeside Tools in Yapton which you can find here. I know they stock plenty of old planes so might be worth a drive out.
