Hmmm, web evidence to support it and deny it in almost equal measure. Report from the BBC says elephants can be trained to paint but dont know what they are doing, they are only copying:

Or if you go to this site

There are elephant pictures for sale, including the one shown in the video clip or suspiciously like it (now sold) but looking at the gallery its the only one that looks like a picture....

My gut instinct says no way is it real (you do not see the elephant for most of the clip, just the tip of a trunk, but it appears to be done 'live' from the background noise so alot of people need to be in on it for that to work. Not impossible (magicians do it all the time in front of audiences with making large objects 'disappear' after covering them with a curtain for example - I have seen David Blain do this with a tank and a train carriage on video clips, not live) but if there was to be a flood of images floating around then someone would yell fake I think.

Just my two cents,

Steve.

They're not fakes. As to whether the elephants know what they are doing, I'll leave that for others to decide.

A colleague at work took loads of photos of this happening when he was on holiday in Thailand last year. The photos clearly show the elephants doing the painting.

Brian

That elephant can sketch better than me or copy :D

A little bit skeptical, because the paint lasted a long time on a brush stroke.

Bit of **** around on the link.
