Paul asked me to make a knife for him from a lump of ebony...here's the handle made, top one is for NeilO who wanted one as well:

Nice ones Rob- read your Blog - I had the same problem drilling as well! :)

Going to try another idea next time - will let you know if it works.

Probably too late to help this time Rob, but what I usually do is drill the handle blank before turning to shape using the hole to then mount on the tailstock centre, ensures the hole is central to the rest of the handle.

Almost impossible to drill the hole afterwards and keep it central/straight.

Paul - that's sort of what I intend to do next, trouble is it's an 8mm hole which is getting a bit big for the tailstock so I may make a false insert out of some Lignum for the hole once drilled. These two holes came out reasonably well though they were a tad off centre (had to plug and re-drill) still but much better than they were. Making the holes :x is without doubt the hardest part of this job - Rob

really looking forward to using it, not that it will improve my dovetails any... :lol: :lol:
