Just push the joint together and pin it. Leave it lying flat somewhere till it dries

Is it advisable to cut the panel the exact size of slightly smaller?

Festool Clamping Elements/fixed clamps were made for this. Or you can use a band clamp or ratchet strap.

I am new to this but am aware that mdf is banned in america because of the dangers caused by th fine fibres. All in all ok if you wear a suitable mask and keep your areas well cleaned down. I would recomend anything but mdf!!!!

Not sure where you heard this? MDF is still available in the US. There were restrictions put in place many years ago, but this had nothing to do with fibre size, it was restriction on formaldehyde in the glue/resin.
