Hi
Sorry not replied for a while.
I got an email from Lie Neilson who say that the chisels will be okay if hit with a steel hammer.. Still not sure though. I can get replacement handles for it and I could get one made with a hope but I want to get something off the shelf which is made for site joinery albeit lightweight finishing joinery - shallow recesses etc.
I'm swayed to the Sorby 167s at the moment as the handle has a hoop and looks like its made for being hit hard.
The Lie Neilson socket ones look like the handle may come loose.. Do they?
I looked at the Rutlands MSG ones but 26mm is too big for 1" mortices isn't it? There seems to be quite a few decent looking hard steel German chisels available but if I'm missing something 26mm will be too wide for what I want..
I looked at the Japanese ones but 24" is too small for 1" mortices.
Any more suggestions before I get a Sorby 1" one to try??
Thanks so far for all the great replies. Its been really helpfull.
