I can confirm the Mirka Abranet is a huge improvement over the traditional sanding materials (Ali oxice, etc0.

I know what you mean, but the mesh is what's different - Abranet is AlOx, Abralon (which is different backing) is SiC, and so on.

Surprised that you use Abranet rather than Abralon at work for that reason, Mailee? I thought SiC was preferred for paint finishing? Does the mesh outweigh that?

I picked up the 80g and 180g rolls from Screwfix today. If anyone's interested, the rolls are the same as the sheet, velcro backs. It fits my palm sander very well:

Tho the fitting brackets on this type of sander are always a PITA. I wonder if I could glue some velcro on the bottom? :-k

Abranet is great for paint finishes, I think that is what it was designed for. It must be the mesh letting all the dust through that helps. It lasts for ages, and mean ages. With the p320 or p500 that we use between coats one disc seems to last for hours, and it doesn't clog.
As for it being coarser, it seems to cut more aggressively on a brand new disc than say a Mirka Gold disc, but it doesn't leave any more sanding swirls than the Gold discs do, or in our opinion anyway.

All I need to find now is a local supplier of finer grit rolls. I probably wouldn't power sand past 240g, but it'd be nice to have the option of finer.
