Hi all,

I've just picked up "How to build 50 Classic Furniture Reproductions" by Monte Burch, in very good condition, from Amazon for 1p plus 2.80 postage. I couldn't believe my luck.

Great.

I picked up a similar bargain: The Handyman's Book, Tools, Materials and Processes employed in woodworking by Paul Hasluck (reprint of 1903 original) - as mentioned on this forum. Cost 1p + £2.80 P&P.

On the subjest of bargains and Amazon, I thought I found a good bargain with a Kindle book that is only £8 odd compared to the normal book of £28. Never used Kindle and wouldn't have one but there is free software that can be downloaded to read Kindle books on the PC.

Duly downloaded the software and then the book. All looks good. However, this particular book has some 20+ patterns for readers to use, which is a good reason to have it. Problem is that the Kindle software does not allow copy or print.

On to the Distributers, but they could not help. Understood the problem but didn't know the answer.

Back to Amazon to ask them. They didn't know either, but a very helpful man at Amazon appreciated the problem and arranged a refund without difficulty. Good plus for Amazon, but publishers who use the Kindle sales, should be aware of this where patterns or the like are part of the book for readers. Will have to buy the book, but it's an idea to give out for Christmas.

Follow on from above.
Had an e-mail from head of UK sales about this. She contacted to say
Hi Malcolm,

I spoke to one of my colleagues in the US and this is what he sent over -

“The book is actually about half plans, so there are a fair number to access. The Kindle formatting isn't "print" friendly, so I've attached a link to the book in PDF download form, which is printer friendly. The link is only valid until the 19th and will allow the book to be downloaded in its entirety. Let me know if there are any questions. You may also that the customer may get a warning about accessing an unexpected site. The warning is standard, and the site is correct. “

Thought that was very nice and now I have a PDF copy that I can obtain the plans from. Good ending.
