Superb restoration job.

The saw seems to have had little use from its original owner. It'll be good for another 100 - 120 years now.

Would you say that handle was apple wood? I'm interested because it looks very similar to the handle of a vintage back saw that I acquired recently.

Mike

I'm grateful for any advice on photography. Hoping to get a better camera this Christmas!

Regards.

Thanks BB

I have had a look at that saw again  , well done that man :)
I will have to get started on my tenon saw ( the Tyzack in my gloat, I mean post  )

Next time you are in a slight hurry, and a sharp saw jumps the start, to nick your thumb, (A singular habit with hardpoints, btw) I think you will find a use for the nib, and why it faces backwards!
I'm not saying that is what the nib is there for, but it is useful.

Hmmmm. I am getting 'Error Mesage 404. Page not found ' on those links BB.

is it my browser, AOL or what?
I wonder!

Hmmmphhhh!
:)

Some little **** hacked into the GIC so the links are now dead, John - s'not you. I'd hazard a guess it might be the one here now reloaded on to the all new, all-singing, all-dancing, all-little ****-proof (I hope) Galoot Image Central.

Cheers, Alf

Thank'ee Alf.

Nice images BB and I will peruse.

Don't want to get too bogged down in restoration/repair though. I have woodwork to do! :D

Just found David Charlesworth's article on making a new, modern plane suitable for use. Someone once told me I was too fussy. But I knew I was right!

Just bought another number 4 (sans iron) from eBay. More work to do, until I can use the sole for a shaving mirror, and then a Hock iron for this one. I might even try for publication in one of the magazines.

TTFN
Thanks again Alf

Ah, it's probably because you're not a signed-up member of the Old Tools List - i.e. a bona fide galoot.

I should warn you of a couple of things though, should you think it a good idea to join. 1. It's customary to post a Bio as a preliminary introduction. 2. Reading the List is what got me hurtling down the Slope. It's not necessarily compatible with wanting to get actual woodworking done...

Cheers, Alf

Hmmmm ;
Sounds just like writing then!
Procrastination is nature's way of telling us to speed up. :D

Thanks Alf.
I will think of some stories to weave into my Bio!
