Finished the tables today, Oiled and waxed. The photos don't really show the colours properly and the sheen of the finish is dificult to see too.

Thought you may like to see the box progress too? Thinking of using the Barrel hinges as I have not used them and it will let the box flip in half.

In the first photo, the finish on the top looks very nice. What wax do you use? Photography seems to be an art in itself... Apparently though, daylight is best for photographs - as long as you're not directly in the sun's light.

Box is looking good too, keep those photo's coming! :)

Bloonose,

well done! Its nice to finish, isn't it? It is surprising how formal those little edging strips make this feel.......and those rails really are obviously walnut now they are oiled (!). I'm not sure whether I like the idea of the differing rails, but they are very elegant legs. (bishop/ actress!!).

Thanks for the kind words guys, the box is only dry fit, hence gappy mitres!

The wax was Liberon, dried very quickly, then wirewooled till matt, with a buff up last. Feels very smooth. Photos never seem to show off what can look fab in the flesh!!

The reason for the contasting timbers was lack of material. I was given enough for the Tops and then enough for all the Rails bar one, so thought I'd improvise and make the small rails and Legs from Sycamore that I already had. When the material was all cut and sitting on the bench, it was all similar tones so just went for it. I'm glad to have finished but wont get the chance to make much more as I'm starting a new job in the trade. I should have put a line of stringing round the bottom of the legs about 60mm up which would have even'd the look up but may still do it later when I buy myself a cutting gauge.

Still to put a finish on My Sideboard, been hanging off, will need to do something this week though, and finish the box......

Absolutely wonderful tables - you've inspired me!!
