Be cautious, Win 10 free update has ended, entering your win 8 key in win10 1511 download MAY activate it. Depends on whether that feature has also been terminated.Sheptonphil":2nktk6wj said:............
When you get it running, upgrade to Win 10 with the free upgrade offer, it's far superior to win 8.1.

Don't press Del - that is to enter bios, which is completely independent of windows.Claymore":1z4kayjz said:Cheers Matt only problem is it won't let me go into setup, basically I turn it on and pressed either f8 or Delete a few times and it goes to the BIOS blue screen..... I cannot find anything that says "Create System Restore Point" very annoying.
Win 10 free update is certainly still available for the foreseeable future, just not via the automatic updates route. You have to do it manually using the upgrade utility.CHJ":23io4a6m said:Be cautious, Win 10 free update has ended, entering your win 8 key in win10 1511 download MAY activate it. I doubt that win 10 1607. (Latest version) will allow this.
That's good to know, (that it is still available) I've only updated 3 machines from downloaded ISO and USB image due to failed hard drives and a MB problem, not my favoured occupation these days and had seen discussion some time ago on MSDN about how long the facility was likely to be available.Sheptonphil":349z7yjx said:Win 10 free update is certainly still available for the foreseeable future, just not via the automatic updates route. I run a repair shop and we still upgrade two or three machines a day, perfectly legitimately from Microsoft, with the genuine Microsoft upgrade utility or a DVD of Win 10, to win 10 ver 1607. works on win 7. 8 and 8.1 every time.

Tend to agree, and the developing ability to run native Linux files via Ubuntu App for development systems should help some folk writing for portable market.Sheptonphil":1y64ubb0 said:.....Ver 1607 really is the best yet. (dare I say better than Win 7)?

I have managed to get access to my files on the PC and I'm copying as many of my important photos/documents/files as possible to a separate harddrive as although the PC is on the fan is running at full speed all the time so obviously a fault with the hardware and as soon as the files are copied I will take to the computer shop to be fixed..... fingers crossed it will last until I have all my Intarsia patterns copied.
Thanks for your help and will keep ya posted on what they find wrong.
Cheers
