Brian.

Win, win all of the way, sounds like a good day out, with benefits.

We don’t have any outlets like that in this part of the world, my wife (sorry boss) keeps a look out in the charity shops, as I can’t get to them, but no luck as yet, just full of clothes, books and nick knacks.

Take care.
Chris R.
PS. Sorry for your scroll saw addiction, but you were warned and unfortunately there is no known cure. (hammer)

Hi Brian. You remind of my granson when he opened his Christmas presents, so excited and full of beans. You certainly got some lovely wood from the chest of drawers and when you take them all apart you must have quite a pile of prime oak that would have otherwise have cost a small fortune. It's nice to pick up bargains like this and for those that use the scroll saw purely as a hobby it must be the cheapest way of getting some good wood. What puts me off from going down this road is the preparation. Some of the finishes used in olden days are very hard and some of the stains used can penetrate deeply into wood. I have a vision of spending hours with a sander getting the wood back to it's natural state but from what you say Brian the chest of drawers were not to bad for getting the wood back to it's natural state. Well done that man.

Hi Chippy , got a possible alternative to sanding for you. I keep one cheapy battered old hand plane just for detritus removal. It is a poor cousin Stanley-alike not worth a darn for anything else which I rescued from binnage. I use it for getting glue off of salvaged boards (including construction adhesives) as well as to see what rough wood kept outdoors will look like before hauling it home. It has saved me a lot of grief over the years. Probably a good way to get old finishes and stains off as well.

My missus brought me a lovely piece of wood back from Australia yesterday.
It's the squareish piece. Unfortunately someone gave it a scare, so it's petrified.

You'll be on Antiques Roadshow soon Brian, unless I've already missed that episode :D From what you said about only having use of one arm, are you going for the Jet P/T?

Well Martin the pieces are stunning,I will be able to see them proper when I come across again,Fran has made a very choice in bringing them back.Fran I hope gets over the very long flight home soon.
