Hope I'm not teaching my grandmother to suck eggs here, but I have just got one of these http://www.3dconnexion.com/ and if you use sketchup it is an amazing productivity booster. Basically it allows you to move the model around in 3d with the your left hand while designing with the mouse in the other. No more constant selecting pan or zoom, moving the model, changing something, then selecting pan or zoom again etc. There's a slight learning curve but once you have the hang of it the whole design process becomes much faster - and more fun. I love it - it really is one of those "how did I do with out this" type products.
