Hi there, I might not been in the correct thread section but couldnt see where to place this. I seriously need some help with a new purchase of a 1932 Robinson Spindle Moulder.

We have managed to get it going with a new switch etc. The dc brake was removed as we was just concentrating on the spindle itself. Upon start up, we have to loosen the belt to allow the motor to gain speed freely and then gently tighten the belt once it has momentum. Surely this isnt right but it the only way oterwise it trips the switch.

If someone can advise that has experience similar problems in the past, I would really appreciate it.

Many thanks for reading!

Either the motor has insufficient torque or the overload is the wrong type or has been set wrongly.
I presume it has a 3 phase motor?

Hi

Yes its a 3 phase motor. What would be our next step? Like I say everytime we need to use the machine we have to run the belt slack to get the speed up then tighten the belt slowly.

Heres a few questions for you.................why have you taken the DC braking out? Why have you put in a new starter switch? is the new switch a like for like swap? has the motor got 3 or 6 connections? what HP is the motor? are the bearings overly tight?

The dc brake was removed as the electrician was certain is was duff so we put that aside and run it as normal.
