I wouldn't use glue-traps then, they don't discriminate.

Spray peppermint oil in the engine bay.

.. or buy a motor that isn't made from Balkánský sýr? :-D

Poison ?

Tried that with my first wife.......had to shoot instead and she still under my feet now (nice patio though) #-o
Ha ha, that did make me chuckle !!

I think I'd buy a load of mouse traps and set them everywhere. 30 mouse traps and regular baiting has to be cheaper than getting the cars repaired ?
I recently tried the 'mouse bucket trap' idea. Hugely dissapointing- only managed to catch a snail. Perhaps you might have more luck ?

call the zoo, a bucket of tiger poo should do the job nicely.
Or, you could always smear the wheels with snake oil.

Has Poundland ventured as far North as bonny Scotland? If so get yer sel doon there because they sell packs of 5 mouse traps for a quid. I have a long history of open warfare with mice too although in my case its usually fishing tackle and other assorted sundries they tend to eat, never had car trouble. But the point is this year I decided to take it personally so went completely trap mad. The secret is to just maintain the regularly because one you have a stiff in one, new ones come and clean the peanut butter up around the corpse....lovely little fella's! So you need to keep rebaiting basically. I had about 20 out each night in all the places they get in to my out buildings and any other known run. Just smear peanut butter on the paddle and I had no damage this year for the first time in ages. Time consuming it is but I would have though a stoat/otter etc would be too big to get got by a regular tom n jerry style spring trap. They're not high tech but they work!

Why not ring a pest control company and get them to sort it. I'm out in the sticks in Scotland too and we had issues with rats and mice especially when we had the chickens. They come in once a month and switch the poison, all in little boxes to negate harm to other animals, not seen a mouse or a rat since, money well spent. Give them a call, nothing to lose

The boxes don't really negate harm to prey birds or animals who eat the poisoned mice afterwards.

Only thing I can think of, which is a bit wacky :) would be having each of the tyres standing in water so the mice don't get up and onto/into the car. That assumes they don't swim of course and I don't actually know about that, and I've no idea how you would arrange the water thing either, so maybe not really much help !

Once the little blighters get a taste for plastic they can be very persistent. I tried my windscreen washers the other day, only to discover that somebody had eaten the plastic water tube.
I prefer traps (in suitable boxes) to poison because:
a) You have proof of success (particularly satisfying if you're troubled by rats, rather than mice);
b) You don't spread poison out into the wider environment and risk (cumulatively perhaps) poisoning creatures further up the food chain.

Even if it were possible, getting rid of all mice would be undesirable - they're owl-food after all.

I think the only real answer is to protect with some kind of vermin-proof structure (doesn't necessarily have to be over-large/expensive).

Cheers, W2S

Mice do swim. Trust me, I've had to fish more than enough out of my pool. rats are damn good at it as well, but lizards....nope.
