    Keir Starmer

I was pleased when he became leader of the party; that lasted until the 3rd week of 'LockDown' when he started whinging about the plans to get out of LD. My opinion changed to it's looks like he's pretty poor at researching the issues and it's just gets worse. Today I just wish he'd call...

Metabo 260C 10" Planer thicknesser - First impressions.

I've not done Rebates on a planner for years - for every thing except the smallest runs I cut Rebates on the table saw and clean up by hand or on the router table.

    No Fault Evictions

The rental market is necessary - personally in the last 5 years of my employment my work location changed 6 times (Ipswich, Slough, Hemel Hempstead, Bristol, Bridgewater and Rugby) all for the same company. Without being able to rent I'd have been in a constant house trading flux.

    No Fault Evictions

I'd say far more contemptible! Personally I dread the next few years. It's already affecting our plans one where we will live etc. I saved and planned for our old age and I can see those plans being shredded as the days pass. I worked in my employment, restricted my social and dependant family...

Bosch Shredder - Last chance saloon?

I had use of a worm type of Shredder - was really impressed. Bought a spinning blade one, used that once and took it back - the noise was horrendous!!! Now have a Qualcast 'Silent' one, work well within it's parameters (40mm timber, just have to be aware of the duty cycle within is around 25%...

    1/2" Router

May I suggest the Triton MOF001 - comes as 1/4" + 8mm but 1/2" and 12mm collets are easily available. You have to consider several things - weight of the machine, Plunge depth, control of cutting depth, ease of changing cutter bits, turning effect on start up, Guide bush fittings / size. I...

Guitar string and a length of dowel?

    Smart meter con ?

In a former career I was 'Device' (mobile 'phone handsets) manager for my then employer - a not so well known UK cellular phone operator. In my section of the company we commissioned an independent body to do ICNIRP research* on handsets. In the late 2000's we had a number of cell sites...

    No Fault Evictions

I issued a S.20 notice on the 1st July this year for the tenant to be out on or by 1st Sept... The housing officer has rejected it that twice on the most spurious of grounds. The tenant whilst initially upset on reflection realised it was a good thing to be moving on - he is close to being...

MFT-style vs. Trad-style workbench design (is there a middle ground??)

For some time I've had to work in one of 2 workshops (som 100 miles apart!). In one I have a proper carpenters bench (2 9" work areas with a central 12' wide, 2" deep well made out of 9x2" timbers on 6X4" legs. It's over 8' long with 2 vices on the working face. In the other workshop I've used...

    Making internal doors

You have been sent PM outlining the way I modify doors. Doing the top and bottom is much easier than the sides. You may find that taking 33mm off the bottom you will clear the edge reinforcing batten.

    Blade drift in bandsaw

The blade is running through all the guides? Top and underside the table? To the full depth? The guides should be clear of the gullet by about 1mm when the blade is cutting. You do have the top guide close to the tiimber you are cutting? Is the blade set on the wheels so it's on the highest...

    Making internal doors

Firstley a couple links to Peter Millard on making your own out of MDF. Trimming doors down to size; I have done it more than once, usually in the workshop but only once on site. It's not simple to be accurate. Me - if you can find doors you like that are solid wood then buy those!

    Plane restoration

That is an old but not ancient plane (I'd say just post WW2). Needs a good clean up (but you know that) - stiff paint brush with a degreaser (paraffin) on the metal parts and leave to dry. Try not to move the 'Frog' adjusting screw if you haven't as yet. The wooden parts a light rub down with...

    No Fault Evictions

My AST contract is very much in alignment with the RLA (now NRLA) model contracts. I did use an agent at one time - it was owned and ran by by a USA ex-pat. I had nothing but praise for her, as did several other LL's, she ran a very tight and 'Legal' business, her successors were very lax and...

    No Fault Evictions

You don't understand the difference between AST's and Registered Tenancies do you? With a Registered Tenancy the LandLord's responsibility is for the fabric of the building up to & including the boundaries and external decoration. Interior decoration, flooring, 'white' goods (cooker...

    Beginner tools / timber advise

Bandsaws are described by the width of the 'throat' - Blade to Lefthand Pillar, usually in imperial. The blade width is important so just the extra 1/8 can be of benefit when ripping. Motor power is very much a muchness. Ease of spares and factory support is worthwhile thinking about. So from...

    Beginner tools / timber advise

I'd suggest with purchasing power tools for your purposes a 10" BandSaw and a pillar Drill. Table saws whilst useful I think a bandsaw is more practical for your purposes.
